Facebook Messenger: change profile code - how it works
With your Facebook Messenger profile code, you can be reached quickly by friends or colleagues. Facebook suggests that the code also be printed on business cards. But if they fall into the wrong hands, you can quickly get a flood of news. We'll show you how to change the code to avoid unwanted messages.
Change profile code on Facebook Messenger
- From a certain version, every user of Facebook Messenger automatically receives a profile code. It is unique, but can be changed. However, this is currently only possible on the iPhone and iPad.
- There is currently no function on Android to change the profile code. Even if the messenger is completely uninstalled and then reinstalled, you will keep the same code.
iOS: Change profile code on Messenger
- Open Messenger and tap the "I" profile icon below.
- Then tap on your profile picture so that the context menu opens.
- If you select "Reset code" here, you will receive a new code.
What to do about intrusive news?
If you get messages from strangers via Facebook Messenger and you have definitely never seen the person before, you should mark the message as "spam".
- Android: To do this, hold your finger on a chat until the context menu appears. Then select "Mark as spam" and you are rid of the message and all others from the person.
- iOS: On the other hand, open the chat on iPhone and iPad, tap on the name and then select "Block". Now flip the switch at "Block messages" and can also block the person on Facebook.
