1 hour, 8 minutes, 16 seconds to delete WhatsApp messages: that's behind the strange time window
Deleting WhatsApp messages will probably take 1 hour, 8 minutes and 16 seconds in the future. That reads a little mysteriously, but there is a reasonable explanation for the ominous amount of time.
Delete WhatsApp messages - that is hidden behind the new time window
It is not new that you can delete a WhatsApp message that you send without thinking if you react quickly enough. So far, however, you only had seven minutes to do this.
- However, the general conditions for deleting an already sent WhatsApp message have not changed. The recipient must also use a new WhatsApp version that supports the delete feature. If the recipient uses an older version of the messenger, you will not benefit from the significantly larger time window, because then you can no longer delete the message.
- But how does this somewhat strange time span come about? Of course, we cannot answer this question exactly, but the crooked time window is probably related to the programming effort.
- One hour, eight minutes and 16 seconds corresponds to 4096 seconds. These 4096 seconds also correspond to 2 to 12. Computers calculate with a basis of 2. Accordingly, 2 to 12 is much easier to program than a time window of exactly 60 minutes.
- And since a few minutes more is not important in this case, the developers of WhatsApp have probably simply chosen the easiest route for them. If in doubt, you have 8 minutes and 16 seconds longer to change your possibly rash decision.
Of course, you can not only delete, but also save particularly great WhatsApp messages.
