10 secret Chrome features for faster surfing
These 10 secret Chrome features are not just hidden in the settings, but are particularly difficult to find. Many of them are actually only for developers, but you should definitely know some of them. Google itself warns with violent words: "We accept no liability for the consequences of activating one of these experiments. It is even possible that your browser will spontaneously go up in flames." Sounds good, so bring it on. In the worst case, you will only lose your saved passwords and your browsing history.
Here you will find the secret Chrome features
- First open Chrome and enter in the address bar: "chrome: // flags" (without quotes).
- Here you will find a long list of different features that you can activate. We present 10 must-haves. Simply search for the following features with the key combination [CTRL] + [F].
1. Chrome generates your passwords
- You can let Chrome do the work for you to have a secure password.
- Activate "Password generation" to get the best passwords from Chrome.
2. Never forget passwords again
If you are already in the passwords:
- For websites that are rarely visited, we quickly forget the password. Chrome offers to save the password each time you log in. You probably already know that.
- The new thing is that you can do without this query and specify: Chrome should automatically save my passwords.
3. Mute tabs
- You have been able to mute tabs on Firefox for a long time. But this also works for Chrome if you activate the function.
- It has the bulky title "Controls to mute tabs in the user interface".
4. Don't load all tabs
- To ensure that your PC runs smoothly even with low system memory, you can activate "Automatically discard tabs".
- Then only the tab that you are currently using is loaded. All other tabs remain in the tab bar, but are not updated.
5. Chrome in material design
- Chrome is too boring for you? No problem, just change the design.
- This is done via extensions in the Chrome web store. But the new material design is only available in the flags and is called "Activate material design extension".
6. More details: So much browser data has accumulated
- A nice feature from the "useless knowledge" category is the browser data counter.
- If you activate it, it shows how much data you have collected. In the end it only helps to delete the browser data.
7. Always a fresh chrome
- Extensions, toolbars, and, and, and. It doesn't have to be because you can start any session with a completely virgin Chrome.
- "Clear data savings on startup" is the name of the function that lets you surf like a freshly installed Chrome every time.
8. Fill out forms in seconds
- You can fill out PDF forms in Chrome. Because Chrome has saved your address and other data on the PC at some point, it can be completed with one click.
- Appropriately, the feature is also called "Autofill with one click" and runs on all operating systems (except iOS).
9. Print websites without advertising
- If you print out a website and check "Simplify page", page elements and most advertising are not printed. You only get pictures and text on paper.
- So that this cool feature is always clicked, activate "Simplify page in print preview". If you later print out a page, you can of course remove the tick at any time.
10. Start downloads again
- If you interrupt a download in Chrome - say close the browser - the file is gone.
- However, you can activate "Download resumption" in the flags and continue interrupted downloads later. This works very simply with the new button "Continue" in the download history of Chrome.
