144 Hz with HDMI - is that possible?
If you want to operate a gaming monitor with 144 Hz via HDMI, this is quite possible, but there are some restrictions. In this practical tip, we show you what to look out for.
HDMI: Is 144 Hz possible?
- The classic HDMI 1.0 cables only create 60 Hz. Since the HDMI version 1.4, up to 120 Hz are possible. Therefore, choose an HDMI cable version 1.4, 2.0 or newer.
- Also make sure that your graphics card supports the respective HDMI version. The monitor should also be able to work with the respective version.
144 Hz monitor: full performance not possible with HDMI
- If you want to reach not only 120 Hz, but a full 144 Hz, unfortunately this does not work with the current HDMI versions. For this you need to use a Dual Link DVI-D or Display Port cable.
- If the screen has G-Sync support, you must use a display port cable to use the additional functions and advantages.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how to set your monitor correctly.
