3 Singstar alternatives in comparison
The Singstar game has long achieved cult status. If you are looking for an alternative for the game that has only been released for the Playstation so far, you often look into the tube. In this practical tip, we present three alternatives.
Singstar alternative: Ultrastar
The Ultrastar program is a free alternative to Singstar. With Ultrastar you can theoretically sing any song as a karaoke version.
- You don't need a console to play Ultrastar, just a computer and a microphone.
- You can download the program from us free of charge. After installing the game, you can import and sing any MP3 file into the program.
- In order for this to work properly, however, you must have a special TXT file in addition to the MP3 file, which contains the lyrics and the pitches. You can download these files from various websites such as www.ultrastarstuff.com or create them yourself. We will explain how to create your own TXT files for Ultrastar in a separate practical tip.
- Similar to Singstar, Ultrastar shows you the text, your score and the respective pitches visually. However, the game does not play music videos.
Singstar alternative: We Sing
For all owners of a Wii, the game "We Sing" should prove to be the most practical Singstar alternative.
- Similar to the Playstation game, you can buy different versions of the game, which then contain different songs.
- If you wish, you can also buy a version that contains the necessary microphones.
- "We Sing" also shows you the lyrics and gives visual feedback about the pitch and the number of points. Unlike Ultrastar, "We Sing" also offers you music videos for many songs.
- If you have a Wii U, the game "Wii U Sing Party" may be suitable.
Singstar alternative: Lips
The counterpart to Singstar for the Xbox is the game "Lips".
- Lips are also available in different versions with different contents. You can also buy a version here that contains the appropriate microphones.
- In addition to the usual display of points, text and pitches, "Lips" also plays the corresponding music videos for some songs.
- Unfortunately, "Lips" is only available for the Xbox 360 and not for the successor Xbox One.
