5 tips for the Google Nexus 7 (2013)
The "Nexus 7" is one of the most popular tablets in its class. Therefore we show you the best tips and tricks for this device.
Upgrade Nexus 7 with alternative firmware
Google delivers its devices with the pure Android. It comes without an external user interface such as "Touchwiz" (Samsung) or "Sense" (HTC). This has the advantage that you can play an alternative surface on the device, which gives you more functions. In another article we show you further advantages of custom ROMs.
- Download CyanogenMod for the Nexus 7.
- Our root guide tells you how to install the custom ROM.
Rotate the Nexus 7 screen
Since the landscape mode is not activated by default for the Google tablet, the tablet remains in horizontal mode until you make the appropriate setting for it.
- Go to the quick settings on the tablet. Open it by swiping down from the top of the screen with two fingers.
- Click the "Rotation" button. Now your tablet will also serve you in landscape format.
Enlarge screen display
If you can't read something on the tablet, there are settings for an enlarged view.
- Go to the settings of your tablet and control the "Accessibility".
- Once there, click on "Magnification movements" so that you can enlarge your current screen content.
- You start and end this mode by triple tapping.
Take screenshots on the Nexus 7
The Nexus 7 is ideal for sharing screen content with your friends or acquaintances.
- A screenshot is a simple image of your ad.
- To do this, press and hold the power button (on / off) and the volume down button at the same time.
- Send this screenshot by selecting the picture in your gallery and tapping on send. Alternatively, you can pull down the status bar and select the screenshot.
Battery life tips
Even if the tablet has a full battery, you can still get a little more out of the device.
- Turn off Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS when you don't need it. As with the "Rotate Nexus 7", this is also possible via the quick settings.
- Reduce the brightness to a minimum or set the automatic brightness. This is also possible using the quick settings, among other things.
These tips refer to the CyanogenMOD version 10.2.0, but should also work on other versions and Vanilla Android. You can read what "App Ops" is for Android 4.3 in another practical tip. This also affects the Nexus 7.
