Google: 7 secret tricks for a successful search
The following tricks will help you get better search results on Google and narrow your search precisely.
- Image recognition: Google can recognize people or subjects of your images on request. To do this, click on the camera icon in Google image search. There you can either upload your own pictures or link to a picture. The search function will then show you more information and related images.
- Narrow Search: Under "Settings" -> "Advanced Search" you can narrow your search results. For example, you can set the language or region.
- Documents: If you are looking for certain files such as PDFs, use the code "filetype: pdf" followed by the search term to restrict your search to this file type. Google also recognizes Microsoft Office files.
- Website search: If you are looking for a term on a certain page, you can narrow your search with "site:" followed by the address of the page and the search term. For example, the code "site: chip.de android" lists all articles related to Android.
- Title search: With "intitle:" followed by the search term, Google shows you all pages in which the word of your search appears in the title.
- Quick search: If you need a definition quickly or don't know what the weather will be like, Google will show you specific information. For example, you get a short definition with "define" followed by your search term. With "weather" and a location, Google becomes a weather station. In the same way, you also know what's going on in the cinema near you. Simply enter "cinema" and your location.
- Avoid offensive material: Especially when you show a child something on the Internet, it is important that the search does not list pornographic or violent search results. With "safesarch:" followed by your search term you ensure a secure search query.
