The Audible file format (.aax) is mostly found in audio book downloads. To convert this format to MP3, you have to take a small detour. We present two options.
AAX to MP3: convert audible files quickly
- First of all, download and install the free Audible Manager.
- If you select the "Computer or laptop" option on the website, you will be downloaded.
- Start the program and log in with your Audible account.
- Download the tool AAX to MP3 and open the ZIP file.
- You will find more files in the ZIP file. Open the "AaxToMp3GUI.exe" here.
- You can use the "Browse" button to select the AAX file and the "Convert" button will convert it.
- This process can take several minutes depending on the size and length of the file.
Convert AAX to MP3 with a virtual CD drive
First you need the two programs Virtual CD and iTunes. Once you've downloaded and installed it, do the following:
- Open "Virtual CD" and select "Edit Settings". Click "Burn" on the left.
- There you select MP3 under "Output format". Make sure that the "Use playlist to use the name of the music title" checkbox is removed. Confirm with "Apply" and "OK".
- Open the program again and click on "Insert virtual blank" and then on "Activate music file mode". Confirm the following message with "OK".
- Now open iTunes and use the menu button at the top left to select "Add file to library". Open the file you want to convert.
- Select the file in iTunes and press CTRL, Shift and N at the same time. You have created a playlist that you can now burn. With a right click on the corresponding list you can burn it.
- In the settings that now open, you must select the virtual drive and the menu item "Audio file", and then press "Burn".
- After the burning process you will find the finished MP3 file in the Virtual Burn folder. In the standard settings the file can be found under C> CDsVCD.
If iTunes asks you to insert an empty blank, go to the "Virtual CD" settings again and make sure that the burner is selected for the virtual drives. Of course you can also burn real CDs with iTunes and then rip them to MP3.
