Since iOS 7 there has been a background update for apps on the iPhone and iPad. In this article we reveal how to activate the feature and what the background update is.
iPhone and iPad: Update apps automatically in the background
With the background update, all your apps stay up to date. For example, Facebook can load your messages in the background and the weather app can update itself automatically. This eliminates the long loading times if you start an app again after a long time:
- To activate the background update, first open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Switch there to the [General] tab and tap on [Background update].
- With "Background update", move the controller to the right. All installed apps that support the new feature now appear. Here you can specify exactly which program should update itself in the background.
- Tip: Do not activate the background update for every app. The constant internet connection can pull at the battery life.
Particularly practical: your iPhone and iPad can also automatically update your installed apps.
