Find the sender of an email attachment via Finder
The sender of an email attachment cannot be determined directly on the Mac using the Finder. You also need the terminal. We show you how it works.
Find out the sender of an email attachment via the Mac terminal
- Press "cmd" + spacebar to open Spotlight search. Tap "Terminal" and select the corresponding entry.
- In the terminal, type mdls followed by a space.
- Drag the desired file into the terminal. The path is then inserted.
- Press "Enter". A long list of meta information appears.
- Scroll down to the entry "kMDItemOriginSenderHandle". Behind it you can see the sender's name and email address (see screenshot).
