Acer Iconia A1-811: root guide
The Acer Iconia A1-811 is a solid 8-inch tablet that can be tweaked a bit with Root - we show the instructions here.
You have to consider this before the root process
- Acer has now delivered a software update to Android KitKat for the device, which excludes the possibility of receiving root rights. So if you want to root, the software does not have to be updated - more precisely before software version "RV08RC06".
- The toolkit written by private developers from the XDA rooting forum is also available for Windows, but you are only on the safe side if you run the tool on Linux.
- A boot from a USB stick or CD is sufficient to run the toolkit under Linux. We also explain how to install Ubuntu on your PC, for example.
- As always, the root process will void all of your tablet warranty claims. With this deep software intervention, you can theoretically damage your device irreparably, rooting is your own responsibility.
How to get root access on your Acer tablet
- Download the "Acer Iconia Toolkit" from this thread.
- Unzip the toolkit and look for the .sh file: You have to confirm in the context menu that you want to run the file as a program.
- Activate the "USB debugging" option on your Acer Iconia in "Settings> Developer options". You can activate the developer options in this way.
- Connect your tablet to your PC with a USB cable. Then start the .sh file and let it run in the terminal.
- Select your exact tablet version, in this case "A1-811", and confirm it by entering the number and Enter.
- From here, follow the on-screen instructions. The system takes up to ten minutes for individual points, which is normal. But make sure that your PC never goes into hibernation, this risks bricking your tablet. The best thing to do is to set hibernation in advance in the energy options.
- After the completion of the root process reported by the program, you can remove your tablet and restart. Now you have root access!
