This practical tip explains how you can blacken PDF texts with Adobe Acrobat and make them illegible for third parties.
Adobe Acrobat: Blacken texts - so it'll work
These instructions refer to Adobe Acrobat 11.0.0.
- Open your document in Adobe Acrobat.
- Click on the "Display" tab.
- Select "Tools"> "Protection" there.
- Now click on the "Black out and remove content" option in the tool list on the right and mark the text passages.
- Now select the text to be blackened. You can use different methods for this.
- The 3 methods are: "highlight text for redaction", "blacken entire page" or "search for a term or pattern and blacken all occurrences".
- After marking, remove the text permanently. To do this, click on "Apply redaction".
- In the next step you confirm that the content to be blackened is permanently removed. To apply this, you must save the PDF file.
- Enter a name for the new file. Add something to the old file name so that the original file is not overwritten.
- Then click on "Save".
