Adobe Illustrator: The 3 best alternatives
There are some cheaper or even free alternatives to the expensive Adobe software Illustrator. We present three of them in this practical tip.
Adobe Illustrator alternative: Inkscape
- Inkscape is a free open source program for Windows and Linux.
- The program is compatible with the SVG format, but can also import EPS, Postscript, JPG, PNG, BMP or TIF images and export them to PNG or other vector-based formats.
- The user interface is simpler than with Adobe Illustrator, but thanks to the numerous tools and shapes you can create complex graphics with the free program.
- The freeware is therefore suitable for both beginners and professionals.
CorelDraw: Alternative to Illustrator
- CorelDraw Graphics Suite X7 is a full-fledged, paid alternative to Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for Windows.
- The suite contains the layout and vector program CorelDraw, the image processing Photo-Paint and other small tools.
- You can test CorelDraw for free for 30 days, the full version currently costs 630 euros.
- CorelDraw Graphics Suite X7 is a fully developed package for professional image editing and graphic design. For beginners we recommend the freeware Inkscape.
Illustrator alternative for Mac: Affinity Designer
- The Affinity Designer graphics program is only available for Mac.
- The vector graphics software contains numerous tools and functions for professional graphic design.
- Affinity Designer was designed exclusively for Mac and therefore shines with optimal performance.
- You can get the software for an affordable 49.99 euros from the iTunes Store.
Tip: Adobe Illustrator is also free. Adobe offers version CS2 from 2005 as a free full version.
