Adobe Illustrator: Activate guidelines - how it works
Adobe Illustrator is a professional tool for creating vector graphics. Guidelines are often essential when working with Illustrator - we show you how to activate them.
Enable guides in Adobe Illustrator
You can easily show and hide auxiliary lines via the menu bar in the program.
- First, open a document with Illustrator.
- Go to "View" in the menu bar at the top. In the lower part of the list you will find the options for guides.
- On the one hand, you can activate the so-called "intelligent help lines" by clicking on the corresponding field. These guidelines are generated automatically when you move the mouse over objects in your document.
- Alternatively, static guides can be created. To do this, you must first activate the rulers at the edge of the screen via "View"> "Rulers"> "Show rulers".
- Then click with the mouse on one of the rulers and drag the pressed mouse over the document. Illustrator then creates a guide at the appropriate location.
- Note that such static guides in Illustrator are treated like normal objects associated with a particular layer. As soon as you delete or hide the layer, the created guide line also disappears.
