Adobe Illustrator: Bend font
With Adobe Illustrator you have the possibility to bend font or text. You can find out exactly how it works and what options you have in this practical tip.
Option 1: Bend font in Illustrator using path text
One way to bend the font in Adobe Illustrator is by path text. This allows you to align the font exactly to certain things or even create shapes. Just follow these steps:
- First create a path in the form you want the text to be later. You can use the pen tool, for example.
- Select the starting point by clicking on a point on the drawing area. Then select a second point and hold down the left mouse button. Meanwhile, pull something down. As you can see, the path bends in the desired direction and form.
- After you have created your path as you want the text to be curved afterwards, we come to the next step. To do this, right-click on the text tool and select the "path text tool".
- Now use this tool to click on the desired starting point on the path. The cursor starts to flash as you know it from Word or similar programs. You can now write your text.
Option 2: Bend lettering by warping
A simple alternative to bend font in Illustrator is warping. This means that the selected text is transformed into an arc. To do this, proceed as follows:
- Select the text tool and write a line.
- Then select the text field by clicking it with the selection tool (black arrow).
- Now click "Object"> "Distortion Envelope"> "Create with Warp".
- A new dialog window opens. Here you can set the desired curvature with the "Bend" slider. You can also switch between different styles depending on the effect you want to create.
