This guide shows you how to insert an arrow in Adobe InDesign. Unlike in Word, the iconic abbreviation "->" is not sufficient, since InDesign does not automatically convert it to an arrow.
Insert arrow in InDesign using the keyboard
The easiest way to insert an arrow in InDesign is to use a font with an arrow: For example, select "Wingdings 3" as the font, as it contains arrows in different directions.

To insert an arrow, press the respective key on your keyboard:
- Arrow with left arrowhead: ^
- Arrow with arrowhead right: a
- Dashed arrow with left arrowhead: 3
- Dashed arrow with right arrowhead: 4
- Thin arrow with left arrowhead: f
- Thin arrow with right arrowhead: g
