Adobe InDesign: insert page numbers - how it works
In this practical tip we will show you how to insert page numbers with Adobe InDesign.
Set page numbers in Adobe InDesign
The professional software "InDesign CS6" from Adobe was developed for the design of special layouts for brochures, brochures or leaflets. In this guide, we show you how to add page numbers to your InDesign document:
- Start "InDesign CS6" and open your document.
- So that you do not have to write a page number on every single page, it makes sense to set the page numbers via the A sample pages in "InDesign". All settings that you make on these pages are automatically transferred to all pages of your document. To do this, click on "Pages" in the top right corner, select both A sample pages and open them with a double click. (See the screenshot).
- Then draw a text field for each page at the bottom of the page where the page numbers should later be shown in your document.
Insert page numbers as special characters in InDesign
Proceed as follows if you have placed both text fields on the A-master pages:
- Mark the first text field and click on "Font", "Insert special characters", "Marks" and finally on the option "Current page number" (see screenshot). The capital letter "A" is displayed in your text field on your A sample page.
- Repeat this process for the second text field. Switch over to your original pages and you will have a numbered document in the correct order.
In another practical tip, we will show you how you can create business cards in "InDesign".
