Adobe InDesign: Align text to baseline grid
In Adobe InDesign, you can align text with the baseline grid to arrange text at regular intervals. This will make your work easier if the lines of double pages should start at the same height. This guide shows you how to align the text with the baseline grid in Adobe InDesign.
Align text to baseline grid: How it works in Adobe InDesign
To align text with the baseline grid, you must select the text tool and switch to paragraph formatting. You can access paragraph formatting by clicking on the small paragraph symbol in the top left with the text tool selected. You can see what a paragraph sign looks like on this page.
- To align the selected text to the baseline grid, click the "Align to baseline grid" icon. You can see where you can find the option in the screenshot.
- Note that only the lines that you have selected are aligned to the baseline grid.
Align text in InDesign to baseline grids automatically
If you do not want to align each paragraph individually to the baseline grid, you can save the setting in a paragraph format. Any text written in this paragraph format is then automatically aligned with the baseline grid.
- Click in a text and choose Paragraph Formats from Window> Formats.
- In the "Paragraph formats" window you will find the "Align to grid" option under the "Indents and spaces" tab.
- If you specify "All lines" here, all text is aligned with the baseline grid to which you assign this paragraph format.
