Adobe Reader hangs - what to do?
The Adobe Reader often hangs not only since the latest version. We'll show you what you can do about it.
This will prevent Adobe Reader from getting stuck
There can be many reasons for the instability of Adobe Reader, so there is no universal solution to the problem. It often helps to wait 15 seconds for the reader to run again. However, this waiting time is particularly unreasonable when browsing PDF files and, with one of the following tips, is no longer necessary:
- If the problem occurs when viewing PDF documents in the browser, first save the PDF file on your hard drive by right-clicking on the link to the PDF instead of a left click and selecting "Save as". Then open the saved copy.
- Install the latest version of Adobe Reader. Perhaps the bug that is causing your problems has been eliminated in the latest version.
- Repair your Adobe Reader version via »Help«> "Repair Adobe Reader installation".
- Change settings that slow Adobe Reader. You can use »Edit«> "Preferences" to deactivate the message on startup, server connection warnings, the touchscreen mode and the quick search.
- With the PDF SpeedUp program, you can deactivate plug-ins that are not required and thus significantly speed up Adobe Reader.
- All steps and the exact settings can be found in the picture gallery.

If none of the tips lead to the desired success, an alternative PDF viewer could remedy the situation. Both the Foxit reader and the PDF-XChange viewer are available free of charge and have a sufficient range of functions. You can use it to view, manage, search, mark, edit and save PDFs.
