Adware: what is it?
In this practical tip, we explain what adware is and how it affects your computer.
How adware works:
- The word "adware" is a combination of the words "advertising" and "software".
- "Adware" is software that is used for advertising purposes.
- Adware usually reaches your computer via downloaded programs. For example, if you install a program and allow all components during installation, adware can also be installed.
- The adware often changes your search engine in the browser or adds desktop icons to various websites. Adware is usually annoying rather than seriously harmful, but adware can also occur in the form of viruses or other malware.
- You should pay particular attention to free programs, as these are refinanced through adware. When installing, make sure that no additional components (e.g. toolbars, etc.) are installed.
