AdwCleaner does not start or crashes - you can do that
With the freeware AdwCleaner you can remove malware and adware safely and easily. If the program does not start or crashes, this may be due to the fact that it is blocked by the firewall or your antivirus tool. In this practical tip, we will show you how you can fix these and possible other problems.
AdwCleaner does not start - it can be because of that
Before you start the program, you should first close all programs that are running in the background.
- You should also briefly turn off your system's antivirus software and firewall.
- Then start AdwCleaner as administrator. To do this, right-click on the shortcut and select the "Run as administrator" option from the context menu.
- A simple restart of the PC can also help.
- You may also have an outdated version of the tool installed. You can find the version number in the window bar at the top. You can always find the latest version of AdwCleaner in our download portal.
- A virus attack may prevent the AdwCleaner from starting. Therefore, carry out a complete system scan with an antivirus program such as "Avira AntiVir".
AdwCleaner crashes - so you fix the error
If the tool keeps crashing, there are other ways to address the problem:
- Please note that the tool or the PC can hang up quickly during the check or cleaning. So wait for the process to complete. This process can take some time.
- As a precaution, you should also temporarily deactivate your antivirus program and, if necessary, the firewall.
- You should also not use the PC during the check, as this will put additional stress on it. This can cause the AdwCleaner to crash.
- However, if these tips don't help, you should uninstall the tool completely. You can use the freeware "Revo Uninstaller".
- Start the free uninstaller, find the AdwCleaner in the list and select "Uninstall". Then click on "Advanced" and follow the further instructions on the screen. This will delete all remnants of the program.
- Then download the AdwCleaner again and install it on your computer. It should now work fine.
We'll show you exactly how AdwCleaner works in the next article. This practical tip is based on the Revo Uninstaller 1.95 and AdwCeaner 4.207 under Windows 7.
