If you don't want to use Airdrop on your Mac or the recipient doesn't have AirDrop, you can find alternatives here. Some of them even work with iOS, Android, Windows and Linux.
Airdrop-Alternative Weafo: file transfer to iOS, Android, Windows and Linux
A good alternative to AirDrop is called Weafo.
- The app costs just under two US dollars (as of June 2015). You can use the tool from iOS 8.0 on iPhone, iPad and other Mac devices.
- When you send a file, the recipient receives an access code that he can open via a browser. This means that the receiver is device-independent and can also see the files on Android and Windows.
- If necessary, protect your files with a password so that strangers do not get your data easily.
Instead of Airdrop Filedrop: Send files from your Mac for free
The second alternative for the Mac tool Airdrop is Filedrop. For the Mac you can find the download in the App Store.
- Filedrop is free (as of June 2015). An app for Mac, Android and Windows devices allows you to exchange files wirelessly, even outside of Apple hardware.
- In the Filedrop interface you can see other computers and devices you are connected to. If you would like to send a file, simply drag and drop the file to the target device.
- The condition for the file transfer is that all devices are in the same network.
Airdrop alternative for Android and Windows: Send files with Instashare
The third alternative to AirDrop is Instashare.
- With Instashare, you can use the mobile version to exchange files free of charge (as of June 2015) between OS X, iOS, Android and Windows. The desktop surface for the Mac currently costs just under 5 euros in the App Store.
- When you receive a file, it is automatically saved in the "Camera roll" album.
- Both users need the app to exchange data. There is no independent solution like Weafo (see above).
