With AirDrop you can exchange data between MacBooks and iOS devices. To use this function also under Windows, you have to access AirDrop alternatives.
Airdrop alternative: data transfer via file drop to Windows
With the freeware Filedrop you can exchange files between two or more computers. You no longer need annoying USB sticks. Both Mac computers and Windows computers are supported.
- Install the free software. Note that both the sender and the receiver must have installed the program in order to enable data transmission later. As soon as you start Filedrop, you will see all the PCs connected to the network on which you have installed and started the freeware.
- Drag and drop your files onto the icon of the recipient's computer. Then confirm the data transfer. Conversely, you can also receive data.
- With Filedrop you can transfer data between Mac and Windows. Download the Mac app and transfer your files by moving the file to the recipient's icon.
- iPhone users also benefit from the software. With the iOS app, you can wirelessly transfer files from your Windows computer to iPhons, iPad and iPod touch.
Windows: NitroShare as an AirDrop alternative
The NitroShare program ensures data transfer between multiple computers that are on the same network or WiFi. You can run the application on Linux, Windows and Mac OS X.
- Install the free software on your PC. Also note here that NitroShare is installed on all computers between which data is to be exchanged.
- When the installation is finished, start the data transfer. NitroShare uses "Share Boxes" for data transmission. Drag the file to be sent to the ShareBox and select the recipient.
Windows 10: Share files and URLs with NearShare
NearShare enables data transfer between Windows 10 and other devices in your environment. This function can be used on any PC that runs this operating system. The basic requirement for this is that both PCs have Bluetooth and run under Windows 10.
- To activate NearShare, open the Windows settings, switch to "System" and click on the "Sharing" entry.
- Documents are exchanged using the File Explorer: Open the target folder on your PC, select the desired file and right-click to open the "Sharing" tab.
- Internet links can be shared in Microsoft Edge: Open the website to be shared and select "Share".
