AirDrop function from iOS 7: Simplified sharing for iPhone and iPad
With iOS 7, Apple is also introducing the AirDrop function on its mobile devices. In this article we show you how to use the new sharing.
Step 1: Activate AirDrop function from iOS 7
The mobile version of AirDrop currently only works with the iPhone 5, iPod touch 5th generation, iPad 4th generation and the iPad mini. If you still don't know what Airdrop is and what it can do, we will inform you in this practical tip.
- Place your finger on the lower edge of the display and pull it upwards so that the Control Center opens.
- First turn on both WiFi and Bluetooth. Available action partners in the vicinity are searched for via Bluetooth, the data is then transmitted via WLAN.
- Click on "AirDrop" below and select "On" if AirDrop is not yet activated.
- Then select one of the two options "Contacts only" or "Everyone". If you opt for "Contacts only", you and your contacts need an iCloud account so that you can connect. If you choose "Everyone", everyone in your area can share content with you via AirDrop.
- AirDrop is now activated and configured. We explain in the next paragraph how you exchange content with other people.
Step 2: exchange data with AirDrop
If AirDrop is activated, you can select content to be shared:
- Press "Send" or the share button within an app such as "Photos", "Contacts", "Safari" or "Passbook". It consists of an arrow in a square.
- As a sharing option, select AirDrop in the middle. Your iPhone or iPad will then search for available devices in the area that have AirDrop activated. Select the desired promotion partner.
- The other user receives a notification of which data you want to transfer to them. He can either reject or accept the request.
- If the transfer was accepted, the file is sent to the recipient via WLAN. The respective content is saved in the appropriate app. Images land in the Photos app, for example, links are opened directly in "Safari".
