Dispose of the battery correctly - how it works
Batteries contain a wide variety of chemical substances that are sometimes toxic and dangerous for the environment. Proper disposal therefore plays a major role here. In our practical tip, we show what you should consider.
Dispose of batteries - where does it work?
- First of all, it is important that you should not simply dispose of batteries from electrical appliances in your household waste - not even as residual waste. The energy storage contains dangerous heavy metals that have to be specially recycled.
- Instead, there is a wide network of take-back points where you can return empty batteries for free.
- Since the end of 2009, retailers have been legally obliged to take back batteries that they previously sold. As a result, you can simply dispose of rechargeable batteries and batteries at the location where you previously purchased the electrical device or the individual batteries.
- In the meantime, many supermarkets and drug stores have set up so-called batt boxes, where you can throw in old batteries free of charge. The respective operators then organize further disposal.
- Of course, you can also hand in batteries to almost all recycling centers. However, a disposal fee is usually charged here. The safest and easiest way is to return it to the seller.
