Improving the battery life of the Samsung Galaxy S8: how it works
With the Galaxy S8, Samsung has launched a new top smartphone. This practical tip explains how you can improve the device's battery life.
Turn off Samsung Galaxy S8: Always On Display
A particularly simple trick to increase the battery life of Samsung's new flagship smartphone is to switch off the "Always On Display".
- As with the previous models, the display of the S8 always remains on and shows various information.
- For example, you can always read the time on the lock screen without pressing a key.
- If you can do without this function, switch it off via "Settings" -> "Lock screen and security" -> "Always On Display".
- You can switch the function on and off even faster by swiping down from the top of the device. In the menu that opens you will find a button to deactivate the function.
Improve battery life with screen timeout
A similar trick also gives you a significantly longer runtime.
- In the settings of the Samsung Galaxy S8 you can choose how quickly the display should turn off after you have not used it.
- You can make this setting under "Settings" -> "Screen" -> "Screen Timeout". It's best to choose the shortest duration.
Adjust the screen resolution of the Galaxy S8
Another way to save battery using the display settings is to adjust the screen resolution of the device.
- The S8 has an ultra high resolution WQHD + display. Although this provides an extremely sharp picture, it also takes its toll on the battery life of your device.
- Under "Settings" -> "Screen" -> "Screen Resolution" you can choose between different resolutions.
- By default, this is on the item "FHD +". If you wish, you can also lower or raise them.
- If you swipe from top to bottom on the display, you will also find a button for this option in the quick menu. With this you only need one click to set the display directly to the highest level, for example to enjoy games or films in the highest resolution.
Adjust the brightness of the S8 and save battery
The display of the Samsung Galaxy S8 is huge. So it is obvious that a weaker display brightness noticeably improves the battery life.
- You can also do this by swiping from top to bottom. At the bottom of the menu is a bar that you can use to adjust the brightness.
- If you also tap on the small arrow at the bottom right of the menu, you can switch off the "Auto brightness" and thus adjust the brightness depending on the environment.
Galaxy S8: let apps fall asleep
The new Samsung smartphone saves battery life in a particularly clever way by simply letting apps "fall asleep".
- If you hold the icon of an app on the home screen pressed longer, a small menu opens.
- Here you select the item "Sleep". If you activate this, the app does not continue to run in the background and therefore does not cost you valuable battery life.
- However, you should keep in mind that you will not receive any notifications from the app. So if you are waiting for an important WhatsApp message, you shouldn't let the app "fall asleep".
