Alexa: control the coffee machine - how it works
Alexa can do more than just tell jokes and play songs. The nice voice assistant even controls your coffee machine - a dream for those in the morning.
Control coffee machine with Alexa: This is how Alexa brews fresh coffee
In order for your Amazon Echo to be able to control various household appliances, you do not have to buy all your household items straight away. A small tool allows Alexa to access devices - including the coffee machine. All you need is a so-called smart plug. With networked sockets and adapter plugs, Alexa also makes coffee for you.
- You must first integrate the smart socket into the network using the corresponding manufacturer app.
- The easiest way to do this is to go to the "Smart Home" menu in the Alexa app or the Alexa website and select "Devices". Here you have to activate the Smart Home Skill first (if you haven't already done so). Then load the relevant skill of the manufacturer and name the socket there, for example with "coffee machine".
- If the manufacturer's skill is installed, it appears under "Smart Home"> "Devices". You may need to update once to see the new device.
- If you connect the coffee machine to the smart socket, Alexa switches it on with the command "Alexa, switch on the coffee machine". The coffee runs through the machine if you flipped the switch the night before. If you prefer fresh beans, you can use a smart coffee machine with wifi. The linked product is compatible with Alexa.
- You still have to get your coffee yourself - Alexa can't do that for you yet.
You can rename Amazon Echo Alexa. In the next practical tips, you will learn how to call up the voice assistant with a different name in the future.
