Connect Alexa to Smart TV - you need that
To control your TV via Alexa, you don't just need an Amazon Echo.
- The connection does not work with every TV set, you need a Smart TV.
- You also need an Android phone and the free app "Smart TV Remote". It is currently only available for the Google operating system, whether an iOS version will follow is not yet clear.
- If you have installed the app, you still need the associated Alexa skill from Smart TV Remote.
How to connect Alexa to your Smart TV
- Switch on your Amazon Echo and start the "Smart TV Remote" app on your Android smartphone.
- Go to the Alexa homepage and select "Skills" in the left bar. Enter "Smart TV Remote" in the search field, select the corresponding result from the hit list and click "Activate". Alternatively, say "Alexa, activate the Skill Smart TV Remote".
- Now switch to the app on your smartphone to register the skill. To do this, go to "Settings" and tap on "Amazon Echo"> "Register".
- You will then receive a code to establish the connection. Use the voice assistant to establish the connection with the voice command "Alexa, tell Smart Remote: Register the app with code XXXX".
- You can then control your Smart TV with Smart Remote via Alexa, for example with the command "Alexa, say Smart Remote TV" to switch on the device. It is important that you always start your commands with "Alexa, say Smart Remote" - this is the only way to communicate with the smartphone app.
- This method works with most TV sets. The procedure differs somewhat from some manufacturers. For example, in the next chapter we will show you how to connect Alexa to a LG Smart TV.
