Connect Alexa to smartphone - how it works
Connecting Amazon's Alexa to your smartphone is child's play. How to benefit from the popular voice assistant with your smartphone. Here we explain the exact procedure.
Connect Alexa to smartphone - HTC U11
HTC had already promised to create an Alexa integration for the release of its flagship U11.
- Availability: In the US, you can connect Alexa to your smartphone so that you can now make requests to Alexa using your smartphone. In Germany, little by little, many more models should be able to play with Alexa.
- Features: You can use the voice control to switch on the light on the go, call up messages by voice command, play music or order a taxi.
- Exceptions: On the whole, the full range of functions of Alexa is also supported on the smartphone - at least if you are the owner of an HTC U11. Exceptions are the control of Bluetooth or WLAN, the creation of reminders, the making of calls and the route search via "Google Maps".
- Google's voice assistant remains: there are apparently no problems with the "Google Assistant" also installed on the HTC U11, because it is still started by a long press on the home button and of course still listens to the command " Okay Google ".
- Start Alexa: There are three ways to start Alexa on HTC U11. A tap on the corresponding icon, an edge sense command (ie the programming that Alexa becomes active when the sensitive frame of the device is pressed) and also simply by the voice command "Alexa".
- Trivia: Alexa then works on the HTC U11 like an echo (dot), can even be controlled in the Alexa app in a similar way to Amazon's speakers. The HTC U11 was originally called "HTC Alexa" there.
Connect Alexa to smartphone - Android & iOS devices
All smartphone users with a different model do not have to look into the tube. Because you too can use Alexa on your smartphone:
- The "Reverb" app, which is available for Android, iOS and MacOs, can help. The app is completely in German and, like Alexa, understands German.
- Using the application, you can also use the Alexa functions outside of your home and away from the Echo (Dot).
- The only difference: Alexa listens constantly and waits to be addressed. "Reverb" must be activated by a button in the app, which is released after the voice command has been sent.
- This is how it works: To be able to use Alexa via "Reverb", you simply have to add the app in the Alexa app in the settings as a new device.
- Then you can communicate with the "Reverb" -Alexa in the style of those in echo (dot), give it commands and make inquiries.
- In the foreseeable future, Amazon should also make its voice assistant Alexa available on all Android and iOS devices.
