Control Alexa remotely while on the go - how it works
You can remotely control Alexa on the go using the app on your smartphone that your Amazon Echo is linked to. This practical tip shows you how you can send voice commands from your smartphone to Alexa without the smart home device nearby.
Control Alexa remotely with the app
The Alexa app allows you to control Alexa while you are out of earshot of the speaker. For example, you can operate other smart home devices via Alexa, add items to your shopping list or create an important reminder.
- To do this, open the Alexa app on your smartphone.
- In the bottom center you see a blue circle. If you tap this, the app asks for permission to access your microphone. You have to allow this to be able to control Alexa remotely while on the go.
- Then say your voice command exactly as if you were communicating it to Alexa at home.
- Alexa also answers as usual - only through the speakers of your smartphone instead of the Amazon Echo speaker.
Did you know that you can even use Alexa as a doorbell? In the next practical tip, we'll tell you how it works.
