Manage all Freemail accounts centrally - how it works
With just one program, you can manage all of your Freemail accounts in one place. We'll show you how it's done.
Manage multiple Freemail accounts through Outlook
To manage your mail accounts from e.g. Hotmail, Yahoo, Googlemail, web.de or GMX together, you need a mail program like Outlook or Thunderbird. In this example we use Outlook, but the basic procedure is the same.
- Open Outlook and click on "Tools" in the menu bar at the top. Select the "Account Settings" there.
- A new window is opening up. Click the "New" button here.
- Just check the box "Manually configure server settings or additional server types" and click "Next".
- Leave the "Internet E-Mail" option activated to receive the e-mails via a POP or IMAP server.
- Now you can enter all the necessary data for your account. First of all, your name and email address are required under the "User information" (see picture).
- Under the "Server information" you have to choose an account type - POP3 or IMAP. Read exactly what the differences between the two are in this practical tip. You can find out about the incoming and outgoing server from your mail provider. For the most common providers, we have listed the servers for you here:
- Hotmail: "pop3.live.com" and "smtp.live.com". Yahoo: "pop.mail.yahoo.de" and "smtp.mail.yahoo.de". GMX: "pop.gmx.net" and "mail.gmx.net". Googlemail: "pop.gmail.com" and "smtp.gmail.com". Web.de: "pop3.web.de" and "smtp.web.de".
- You will need to re-enter your email address and password under the "Login information".
- Now click on the "Additional Settings" button at the bottom right and switch to the "Outgoing Server" tab. Activate the checkmark in front of the item "The outgoing server needs authentication" and click on "OK".
- You can use the "Test account settings" button to check that your information is correct. A connection to the account is established and a test email is sent.
- Finally, click on the "Next" and "Finish" buttons. You can now repeat this procedure for your other accounts.
