SIM cards come in different formats. Depending on the device used, you may need a larger or smaller SIM card. In this article, we present all SIM formats in more detail.
SIM card: All formats at a glance
- Standard SIM: The normal SIM card or mini SIM measures 25 x 15 x 76 millimeters. It especially fits in older cell phones and tablets.
- Micro-SIM: At 15 x 12 x 76 millimeters, the micro-SIM is significantly smaller than the standard model. Since the card takes up less space, it is popular with many cell phone manufacturers.
- Nano SIM: However, the so-called Nano SIM is used even more frequently. It is currently the smallest format of a SIM card with 12.30 x 8.80 x 0.67 millimeters. The card practically consists only of the golden chip.
- eSIM: Unlike the SIM cards mentioned above, the eSIM (short for "embetted SIM") is permanently installed in a device. Although this makes it difficult to switch in the event of a defect, it makes it easier to switch providers and cell phone contracts. So far, however, the eSIM is not really widespread.
- Multi-SIM: Multi-SIM cards do not have their own format. Instead, these are standard SIMs with predetermined breaking points. So you can break the SIM card into a mini or nano SIM.
If you don't have a practical multi-SIM, you can cut your SIM card yourself.
