Aloe Vera care products at Öko-Test: The best gels and lotions
In the Aloe Vera Test by Öko-Test, 18 Aloe Vera care products had to prove themselves - the test result is gratifying: most gels and lotions are recommended. But in the end a product failed ...
Öko-Test: 11 Aloe Vera care products convince
Aloe vera is popular for skin care due to its anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties. Öko-Test not only tested how much aloe vera is actually contained in the gels and lotions. The tested care products were also examined for problematic preservatives and fragrance components.
- 11 of the 18 Aloe Vera care products tested rated Öko-Test with the top grade "very good". In some cases, the aloe vera content of these products was over 90 percent. When shopping, make sure that the term "Aloe barbadensis" appears as far as possible in the ingredients. Then there is a lot of it and works well against pimples, for example.
- Since the price range of the individual gels and lotions is very large, the price also plays a role in choosing the winner. Here, "Krauterhof Aloe Vera Gel" is clearly ahead: with an aloe vera content of 96 percent and a price of 2.26 euros per 200 grams, the fragrance-free product convinces without any complaints.
- "Müller Plant Cosmetics Aloe Vera Gel" comes in second place. The product is a little more expensive at € 7.99, but is made up of 97 percent aloe vera. Unfortunately, unnecessary perfume was detected - nevertheless it received a "very good". If you want to take care of your hair with aloe vera, you should be happy about the fragrance.
Test result: Almost all aloe vera care products are recommended
In addition to many "very good" and "good" products, there were still a few gels / lotions that only scored "satisfactory" in Öko-Test:
- Four of the five "satisfactory" care products contained PEG or PEG derivatives as preservatives. According to the latest studies, these additives are considered carcinogenic. Only the "Nivea Sun Nourishing After Sun Lotion with Aloe Vera" contained no PEG, but questionable paraffins.

An aloe vera care product fails
In addition to many winners, there was one clear loser at Öko-Test:
- "Garnier Ambre Solaire After Sun with natural aloe vera" was the only product rated "insufficient".
- Öko-Test showed musk fragrance. This additive is deposited in the adipose tissue and is suspected of causing liver damage. In addition, PEG and PEG derivatives and paraffins were also discovered here.
