As a network drive: integrate OneDrive in Explorer - how it works
OneDrive is integrated into Explorer from Windows 8, but not as a network drive. In this article, we will show you how to integrate OneDrive as a network drive.
Windows 8: Mount OneDrive as a network drive
In Windows 8, you can mount OneDrive as a network drive with a simple command. In order for the command to be executed every time the PC is started, you must place it in the Autostart folder:
- Right-click anywhere on the desktop and select "New" - "Text Document".
- In the text file, enter the command "subst Y: c: \ users \ [user name] \ Onedrive". Enter your username at [Username]. For "Y:" you can also choose any other free drive letter. If you have moved your OneDrive folder, you have to adjust the path accordingly.
- Save the text file and close the editor.
- Right click on the file and select "Rename".
- Name the file "Onedrive.bat" and confirm any queries.
- Open with the key combination [Win] + [R], enter "shell: startup" and confirm with Enter.
- Paste the file here. It is now executed on every start and OneDrive is integrated as a network drive.
Windows 10: Mount OneDrive as a network drive
The trick no longer works in Windows 10. Instead, you need to do the following:
- Sign in to OneDrive using your Microsoft account.
- In the URL you will find a code behind "& cid =". Copy this to the clipboard.
- Now open Explorer, right-click on "This PC" and select "Map network drive".
- Enter any free drive letter.
- Under "Folder" enter //d.docs.live.net/[CID]. Paste the code you just copied at [CID].
- Click Finish". OneDrive will now be connected and you will be asked to enter your login details. Then OneDrive is integrated in Explorer.
