Old console: You can do that with your game console
Once you've treated yourself to the latest game console, you may be wondering what to do with the old XBox or Playstation. Instead of letting them live lonely in the basement or in the attic, you should do something useful with it. We have a few tips for you.
Tip 1: monetize the old console
If the old game console still works, you can sell it.
- This will not make you rich, but you should be able to jump out of a game or two for your new companion.
- On ebay you can sell everything you no longer need yourself. A functional XBox or Playstation can bring good money here. If you have an account with Amazon, you can also offer the console there.
- You save on sales fees when you advertise in local newspapers or use eBay classified ads. Maybe someone in your circle of friends is looking for a playmate.
- A little research on the Internet is worthwhile. Maybe someone is looking for a used console.
- The better the condition, the higher the proceeds. Therefore, clean the housing and accessories thoroughly before offering them for sale.
- Tip: These are the best online retailers to sell used consoles.
Tip 2: Make it a media center
If you cannot separate yourself from your old companion, change it.
- If you have two TV sets or two monitors, you can continue to use the console as a DVD player.
- This works with XBox and Playstation, but unfortunately not with the Nintendo GameCube.
Tip 3: Make a child happy
Giving is fun - so why not give away the old console.
- If you want to put your old console to a good cause and know that it is in good hands, give it away.
- You will surely find a child in your family or among friends and acquaintances, whom you can make very happy with the console.
- There are also many children from poorer families who can never afford such a toy. Before you leave the console unused, you are doing a good job.
- Children's homes or children's hospitals should also be considered. The little ones there often have a hard time in front of or behind them. A little variety with a game console can brighten everyday life a little. However, it is better to inquire beforehand in appropriate facilities whether such donations may be accepted.
Tip 4: Recycling protects the environment
Don't throw the old console in the trash - even if it's broken.
- As much fun as a console is while playing - there are a lot of poisons hidden inside. If the device ends up in the garbage, these toxins are released into the environment.
- Recycling is the better alternative. There is definitely a recycling yard near you. Old consoles are usually accepted free of charge there.
- You can inquire about the prices in advance if you are not sure whether the free delivery is possible in your community.
- Tip: You must take this into account when disposing of electronic waste.
Tip 5: Keep using parts of it
You can certainly continue to use some parts of your old game console - albeit inappropriately.
- For example, you can use your old PS3 controller on a PC. We explain how to do this in a separate article.
- An actually disused Wii U Pro controller can also be used on a Windows PC.
- Alternatively, how about a lunch box from an old Nintendo Entertainment System housing - the transformation is not a big effort.
