Play old Xbox 360 games on Xbox One?
If you have an old XBox 360, a large game collection could have piled up. This practical tip will tell you whether you can play them on the XBox One.
Is the XBox-One backward compatible?
The answer is: soon! Because Microsoft has surprisingly announced at the E3 games fair that old Xbox 360 games will also be playable on your Xbox One by the end of the year.
- Microsoft has probably made an enormous technical effort and developed an emulation environment for the old games.
- Participants in the "Xbox One Dashboard Preview" program can already test the function with a small number of approx. 20 games. These include, for example, "Battle Block Theater" or "Mass Effect".
- Until the feature is available to all users at the end of 2015, the list should grow considerably longer.
- If you log in with your account, you can simply download your old, digitally purchased games. You can also insert a game disc in the same way. Even then you can download the corresponding game. However, you have to insert the disc every time you want to play.
- Microsoft must first ask the respective publishers for permission. Therefore, it is not certain that every Xbox 360 game will run on One. For example, problems could arise with titles for which there is already a remake.
- On the User Voice platform, you can vote which games you would most like to play on your Xbox One.
