Use old router wisely - 3 options
Your old router doesn't necessarily have to collect dust in the basement. You can also use it sensibly. In our practical tip, we present 3 options.
Possibility 1: Use the old router as an access point
- With an access point, you can easily expand your WLAN network and its range.
- Simply connect the old router to your main router using a LAN cable and you have already improved your WLAN range.
- Your devices must then connect to the old router via WLAN.
Possibility 2: Make the WiFi repeater out of the old router
- If both routers have a WiFi repeater function, you can even extend your WiFi signal wirelessly.
- To do this, you simply have to connect both routers using the repeater function so that there is an Internet connection.
- Other devices can already connect to the old router via WLAN. Advantage: Without any cables.
- In another practical tip, we explain in more detail what the difference between an access point and a WLAN repeater is.
Option 3: Build a home and office network with the old router
- If you work from home, the old router can be used to separate the home network from the office network.
- And this is how it works: Connect all devices for your home network to the main router.
- Then connect both routers with a LAN cable and connect all the devices for the office network to the old router.
- In the router settings, you must now assign the router a different IP address (example 192.168.1.1) - done!
