Amazon Echo: Alexa stops responding - you can do that
If Alexa suddenly stops responding and no longer emits any sound, your Amazon Echo need not be defective. You can usually fix the problem yourself in just a few simple steps so that the smart home device functions properly again.
First aid: Alexa stops responding
If Alexa stops responding, there can be several reasons. In particular, the obvious sources of error are often overlooked. If Alexa stops working, you should first check the following:
- Is Amazon Echo connected to a power source? If so, test another outlet for safety.
- Does the power cord work? Feel it for a broken cable and replace it for safety.
- Is Alexa set loud enough? If the LEDs respond to your voice input but there is no sound, turn Alexa up using the buttons on the Amazon Echo. Also make sure that no other audio output is connected and check again whether Alexa is responding.
- Do the LEDs light up? For example, a red ring will tell you that Alexa is muted. If you say the activation word "Alexa", the ring should glow blue and turquoise.
Troubleshoot Amazon Echo issues
If Alexa is still not responding and you have not yet been able to identify a cause for the device to become silent, please note the following:
- If Alexa does not respond while trying to use Amazon Echo for the first time, the error is probably due to the setup. Therefore, read how to set up Alexa correctly.
- Also restart Alexa completely. Pull out the plug and reconnect it to a power source after about a minute.
- Then check your WiFi connection. Do not place Alexa too far from the router so that the signal is not too weak. Since these WLAN errors occur relatively frequently, we will show you in a separate article how you can fix further WLAN problems with Alexa.
The problem has not yet been solved? Reset Alexa to factory settings or contact Amazon customer service if she still doesn't respond.
