Amazon Echo: Rename Alexa - Here's how
If you don't like what the device name of "Amazon Echo" is, you can assign a different name to the device. Just follow the steps below:
- Start the Alexa app and select the three bars that you will find on the start page (see picture). This selection takes you to the menu.
- Select "Settings" and choose "Device Settings" on the next page (see below for how to change the activation word for Alexa).
- Now select the device for which you want to change the name.
- At the top you can now select "Edit name" and set a new device name.
- Enter the desired device name such as the room name or a fantasy name and tap "Save" to make the changes. From now on, in the device overview you will see the specified name for your "Amazon Echo".
Amazon Echo: Change Alexa activation word
You can also change the activation word for your voice assistant via the settings in the Alexa app. There are alternatives to "Alexa, ...".
- Open the settings in the Alexa app as described above and select the device for which you want to change the activation word.
- Under the device settings you will find the entry "Activation word".
- Here you can choose between "Alexa", "Amazon", "Echo" and "Computer".
