Switch off Amazon Echo and deactivate Alexa - how it works
The Amazon Echo can be switched off so that the voice assistant Alexa no longer accepts any commands. In this practical tip we will show you how this works.
How to turn off Amazon Echo
Unlike most electronic devices, there is no power button on the Amazon Echo and the Amazon Echo Dot. Alexa is therefore able to receive and implement voice commands at any time.
- However, the microphone of the Amazon Echo can be switched off very easily: To do this, press the microphone button (this shows a crossed-out microphone) on the top of the device. Its LEDs then begin to glow red continuously. The microphone is now deactivated. Other functions such as music playback continue to run.
- If you want to switch Alexa off completely, the easiest way is to pull the plug out of the socket or the power cable out of the device. If the Amazon Echo is to be switched off more often in this way, it is recommended to purchase a power strip with a switch. Incidentally, your settings will not be lost if the Amazon Echo is disconnected from the mains.
- Tip: Alexa can only work if there is an active connection to the Internet. You can also deactivate the voice assistant by switching off your WiFi network.
