Amazon Echo: Control Philips Hue with Alexa - Instructions
If you want to control the Philips Hue lamps with the Amazon Echo, you first have to connect the two devices. We'll show you exactly how to do this.
Control Philips Hue with Alexa (Amazon Echo): What do I need?
- To establish a connection between the Philips Hue and the Amazon Echo or Alexa, you not only need a Philips Hue lamp, but also the Hue Bridge. The bridge is included in the Hue Starter Kit.
- If you use the Amazon Echo Plus, the bridge is not necessary. The setup will then be quicker. In the following practical tip you will find separate instructions for the Amazon Echo Plus.
Instructions: Connect Philips Hue to Amazon Echo
In order for the two devices to connect to each other, they must be in the same WLAN.
- First, set up the Philips Hue lamps. To do this, you need the Hue app for iOS or Android.
- If you can operate the lamps via the Hue app, you can now continue with the Alexa app.
- Open the menu in the top left of the app and select the "Skills" there.
- Select the Philips Hue skill and log in with your Hue account.
- Then switch to the "Smart Home" category in the menu and select the "Devices" there.
- Here you can select the individual devices, give them a name and assign them to a room. This allows you to control the individual lamps in a targeted manner.
Amazon Echo: Control Philips Hue by voice command with Alexa
There are some useful voice commands for the Phlips Hue lamps. Just try the following commands with Alexa. Of course, you have to adapt the names of the rooms.
- Alexa, turn all Hue lights off / on.
- Alexa, turn on the lamp in the bedroom.
- Alexa, make the lamp in the bedroom colder / warmer.
- Alexa, turn on candlelight mode in the bedroom.
- Alexa, switch the lamps to 30 percent (dim).
- Alexa, turn the color of lamp X blue.
