If the Amazon Echo (Dot) has problems or if you want to sell it, you should reset the device to the factory settings. We'll show you how.
Reset Amazon Echo to factory settings
Tip: Many problems are already solved by a restart. Simply take the Echo off the power. If there are persistent errors, only a reset will help. The following instructions only apply to the first generation Amazon Echo. Use the second generation echo, read on in the next paragraph.
- For this you will find a small hole at the bottom of the Amazon Echo. This is the button for the reset.
- Use a curved paperclip, a pointed pencil or something similar and hold the button in this hole for 5 seconds.
- The light ring of the Amazon Echo then glows orange and then blue.
- If the ring is orange again, the Amazon Echo has been reset to the factory settings.
- You can now set up the Echo again via the Alexa app.
