Publishing your own eBook on Amazon: What do I have to consider?
- Amazon publishes its eBooks in MOBI format. Amazon also accepts books in the formats DOC, DOCX, HTML and EPUB, but then independently converts them into MOBI. To avoid formatting errors, you should save your eBook as a MOBI file yourself using the Kindle Previewer.
- The length of eBooks is almost unlimited, but your title and subtitle together can only be 200 characters long. The product description provides information about your book, there is space for 30 to 4, 000 words. The product description has the same meaning as a blurb.
- If you upload your cover, it must be in JPG, JPEG, TIF or TIFF format. Here you will find instructions for converting to JPG. Your cover has the optimal dimensions with a height of 4, 000 px and a width of 2, 500 px with a resolution of 72 dpi. Very bright covers should be provided with a thin frame, otherwise they will overflow seamlessly into the Amazon website.
- Books are also subject to an imprint. So that no warning is waiting for you after the publication of your first eBook, you will find a template for the imprint here.
