Amazon Fails: These flops have been given up again
Amazon is at the top of the wave of success, but the online shop has also had a few failures in the course of its success story. With some of these flops, Jeff Bezos is pretty high up on the international rankings because they were in the high three-digit million range.
The biggest flops of the online shop
If you don't take risks, you won't win anything - Jeff Bezos obviously follows this motto. The multi-million dollar founder of Amazon has not only had success, but also some costly failures.
- Did you know, for example, that Amazon launched its own smartphone a few years ago? However, due to a lack of interested parties, the project was quickly canceled. With the Fire Phone, Bezos burned a high three-digit million amount.
- The shopping giant has already tried its own baby diapers. The product Amazon Elements Soft & Cozy Diaper had a sonorous name, but critics felt that the quality of its own brand was largely lacking.
- The trip to mobile payment was also not really successful. Therefore, the Mobile Wallet app was discreetly withdrawn after a few months.
- The attempt to compete with PayPal also went terribly wrong. WebPay was the name of Amazon's peer-to-peer payment service, which was reinstated so quickly that hardly anyone knows it.
- In its SVoD productions, Amazon is occasionally completely wrong. For example, the hugely announced television series "Crisis in Six Scenes" with Woody Allen in the leading role flopped with timpani and trumpets. In order to avoid the failures in the in-house productions in the future, Amazon has developed a new system: Amazon Prime members can decide in advance which films or series will be produced.
- Competing Apple and Google with a third large app store already failed in the United States. Therefore, the online shop has wisely decided not to establish the Amazon app store for Kindle readers outside the United States.
Amazon - how failures become a huge success
Whoever makes mistakes is by no means stupid. Those who do not learn from their failures, on the other hand, tend to do so - however, one cannot really blame the Amazon founder for being stupid.
- For example, his unsuccessful auction website quickly became the very successful marketplace.
- Bezos is also quietly increasing its share of own brands in the online shop, but apparently with great success. In addition to the well-known own brands Amazon Basics and Amazon Essentials, there are already 19 other brands in the online shop, which are actually Amazon itself. There are also ten other brands that mail order companies have not yet used.
- A new, significantly cheaper Amazon smartphone is also planned. But this time tailored to countries like India.
- Rumor has it that Amazon plans to venture further into the tourism industry in the foreseeable future. The first attempt with Amazon Destinations flopped a good three years ago and was therefore withdrawn from the market after a few months.
