Amazon: "Your order has been canceled" - you need to know
Receive an Amazon email saying "Your order has been canceled", you should be careful. Many of these emails are not genuine and aim to gain personal information and account details. On this page we show you how to distinguish a real email from Amazon from a false one.
Amazon Mail: "Amazon - Your order has been canceled" - you need to know
- There are currently many so-called phishing e-mails in circulation that pretend to be Amazon. This also includes the email with the subject "Your order has been canceled".
- In the mails you will be asked to click on a link, either to confirm your account details or to cancel the cancellation. Personal data will then be requested.
- Attention: Do not click on any of the links in the email. Do not reply to the email, but delete it immediately.
- Tip: If you move the mouse over one of the links, the address is shown at the bottom of the screen. If this does not start with www.amazon.de / ..., you will be directed to a fake website (see picture).
- Tip: Did you order anything from Amazon at all? If not, you can be sure that it is a scam. If so, go to www.amazon.de and check the order status in your user account.
Canceled Amazon order: there are occasional real mails
Basically you should never click on the link in the mail. Instead, always go to the Amazon website yourself. Amazon never cancels an order because only available products are listed on the website. The topic is somewhat more complicated with third-party providers (Amazon Marketplace). In rare cases, the Amazon emails can be real here:
- If you have ordered an item from a third-party provider via Amazon Marketplace, they can cancel the order (see picture).
- However, these emails do not contain any express requests to visit certain pages.
- The background: Some third-party providers place articles particularly cheaply on Amazon. They want Amazon to follow suit and also go down in price. Then they buy the cheap goods. However, if a customer buys this inexpensive item from a third-party provider, he will cancel the order. After all, he doesn't really want to sell any items cheaply, just influence the Amazon price.
