Amazon Kindle: The Best Alternatives
Amazon is currently the market leader in the field of eBook readers with its Kindle. But the competition also offers good alternatives. We'll show you the best alternatives to Kindle.
Kindle competitor: Sony PRS-T3
Sony has launched a solid competitor with its e-book reader.
- The 6-inch display offers a very sharp image with the 758 x 1, 024 pixel resolution. The image quality can clearly be measured with the Kindle Paperwhite.
- The disadvantage of the display, however, is that Sony has not installed any display lighting. So you have to manually illuminate the display in the dark to continue reading.
- The weight is 196 grams. This makes the eBook reader a little lighter than the Paperwhite.
- With the Sony PRS-T3 you can buy your eBooks in several shops and are not limited to just one provider.
- The battery life is on average the eBook reader. Compared to the Kindle, the Kindle battery lasts a third longer.
- The only major disadvantage to the Kindle is that the Sony reader has no lighting. Otherwise, it is hardly inferior to the Kindle.
Display winner: "Kobo glo" beats the Kindle
The "Kobo glo" is also well in the race against the Kindle and even makes some things better.
- The 6-inch display is illuminated with LEDs. So reading in the dark is not a problem.
- The contrasts are very sharp and the uniform lighting even exceeds that of the Kindle.
- However, the speed is slightly behind the Kindle. The page layout is somewhat slower and the touch control does not run as smoothly as with comparable models.
- You can get the eBooks from your own online shop. You can supply the "Kobo glo" with WLAN.
- Weighing only 184 grams, the "Kobo glo" is one of the lightest readers. Despite this weight, the workmanship cannot be criticized.
- Among the illuminated eBooks, the "Kobo glo" is a viable alternative to the Kindle if you can take a pace on the reaction speed side.
Anti-Amazon: Longshine Tolino Shine
The merger of Hugendubel, Thalia, Weltbild and Club Bertelsmann created the Tolino Shine.
- The illuminated display has a size of 6 inches and is therefore not inferior to the Kindle.
- The battery life does not come close to the Kindle, but it is still above average.
- The integrated shop of the Tolino depends on which store you bought the reader from. This shop also serves as a shop for downloading the eBooks.
- However, the reader also reads the standard "ePub" format. So you can avoid any problems with the dealer.
- In comparison, the usability of the Tolino cannot convince, since the display responds less precisely than that of the market leader.
- The range of functions is also rather small compared to the other alternatives. With the Tolino, for example, it is not possible to take notes or display pictures.
- Ultimately, the Kindle is clearly ahead of the Tolino. But if you're looking for a simple and solid reader, the Kindle is worth considering.
