Install Amazon Security Certificate: Spam or Not?
- "As we have had to deal with unauthorized orders more recently, we have developed a new security update for customers with mobile devices." This is how you are greeted in the supposedly official email from Amazon.
- The email states that fraud has often occurred on Amazon in the past. For this reason, you should protect yourself by installing the security certificate.
- If you follow the instructions in the mail, you will be asked to install an app from an unknown source. This is malware. The effects of this are unknown, from theft of your data to the destruction of your smartphone, everything is possible.
- Amazon actually offers the installation of security certificates for Kindle and Fire devices, but this is not interesting for normal users. It is clearly a spam email.
Received spam from Amazon - what to do?
- Should you receive such an email again, you can confidently delete it as well. Amazon will not recommend installing security certificates.
