Amazon phishing: how to protect yourself
Recently more and more phishing emails and websites have been noticed, which are supposed to get Amazon users to disclose their personal data. Here's how to protect yourself from such fraud attempts.
Amazon phishing: how to protect yourself
Since phishing emails and pages often look different, there is of course no universal identifier. But the following points will help you unmask phishing:
- Pay attention to the sender and the sender address. The sender and the domain often differ from the original e-mails.
- Check the email or website for typing and grammatical errors and check the layout. But keep in mind that even perfectly designed texts and an authentic structure are no guarantee of secure content.
- Look at the details of the email. In Gmail, for example, just click the little arrow below the sender. In the case of an original email from Amazon, "Signed by: amazon.de" must appear here - you can see it on the screenshot on the right. If no signature is displayed, the mail is almost certainly a scam.
- If you are on a website, make sure that the URL at the top of the browser is correct. As long as you are on the domain amazon.de nothing can happen to you.
- Use real-time virus protection and activate the "Safe Browsing" feature in your browser. This will warn you of fraudulent sites.
- If you discover a phishing site, you should report it. This way you can prevent other users from being trapped by the scammers.
- If you are still not sure whether the page or the email actually comes from Amazon, you can contact Amazon Customer Service.
