Watch Amazon Prime on Linux - Here's how
Because Amazon Prime Video is based on Microsoft's Silverlight routine, it is not supported by Linux by default. With one trick you can still use the VoD service from Amazon. You can find out how to do this in this article.
Install Amazon Prime on Linux - Silverlight
To watch Amazon Prime Video on Linux, you need Microsoft's routine Silverlight.
- To do this, open the terminal and log in to a root account using "sudo -s".
- Then you should remove Pipelight (if available), as this can lead to problems: "apt-get remove pipelight".
- Now install Pipelight-Multi with the following commands: "apt-add-repository ppa: pipelight / stable", "apt-get update" and "apt-get install - -install-recommends pipelight-multi".
- After following the installation instructions, update the software via "pipelight-plugin - -update".
- Now activate the plugins required for Amazon Prime Video: "pipelight-plugin - -enable silverlight", "pipelight-plugin - -enable flash" and "pipelight-plugin - -enable widevine".
- To avoid possible error messages, remove any existing config files: "rm -rf ~ / .wine-pipelight /".
- Log out of the root account with "exit" and run a short test via "pipelight-plugin - -system-check".
Watch Amazon Prime
Now that you've installed Silverlight and Flash, you can watch videos and movies.
- Start the Firefox browser. A one-time installation window of Pipelight opens briefly.
- After waiting for this, you still have to install the UAControl addon so that your user agent is changed.
- Restart your browser and go to "Manu / Addons" on UAControll.
- Add the page "amazon.de" via "Add Site" and write as a custom action: "Mozilla / 5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv: 23.0) Gecko / 20131011 Firefox / 23.0".
- You may have to allow Silverlight for the first movie or video.
- Now you have installed all the necessary programs and can use Amazon Prime under Linux.
If the video selection at Prime Video is not enough for you, you can also download YouTube videos directly with Linux.
