Amazon Prime bandwidth too low: what to do?
You see the error message "Your internet bandwidth is too low" on Amazon Prime Video? We will tell you what you can do in this case.
Amazon Prime: bandwidth too low - you can do that
You want to watch a movie or a new episode of your favorite series - but Amazon Prime Video gives you the error message "Your internet bandwidth is too low." You will be asked whether you want to continue playing despite possible interruptions. You click "Yes", but the problem persists. This could have various causes. We give you some tips on what you can do so that the evening ends beautifully.
- Check if the internet is working properly. If you also have difficulty opening websites on your computer, laptop or smartphone, the problem is not with Prime Video. You should restart your router and, if that doesn't work, contact your internet service provider's support.
- Even if you clicked "Yes" regarding playback and nothing changes, you should do it again. In many cases, playback starts after two or three attempts.
- To avoid having to search for the movie or episode again, it is easier if you click "Yes" directly during the error message as described above. If that doesn't work at all, you should leave the Prime Video app entirely. You will have to search for the content you want, but you should no longer see an error message.
- With older TV models in particular, error messages can occur if the firmware has not been updated. That is why Amazon recommends that you regularly check whether there are firmware updates for your television and install them. The Prime Video app is also updated from time to time and a new installation may be necessary.
- Another thing that Amazon support recommends in such cases: you could log off your device from Prime Video and log on again.
Amazon Prime Video: what bandwidth do you need?
If you don't know how fast your internet connection is, you can check this in our CHIP speed test.
- For older films and series that are available in standard definition quality (SD), you need a bandwidth of 900 Kbits / second.
- For high definition videos (HD) you need 3.5 Mbit / second.
- If playback starts, but the videos appear pixelated or paused, stop playback. Wait for the content to load and then continue watching the movie or episode.
